Our Story

About ARED

More than four decades of bringing furniture back to life, one piece at a time.

A Family Tradition of Craftsmanship

Arnold, ARED's founder and lead craftsman, working on upholstery in the workshop

ARED Furniture Repair & Antique Restoration began in 1980 with a simple idea: that well-made furniture deserves a second life. Over 45 years later, we are still operating from our workshop in Wylie, Texas, and the philosophy has never changed.

Arnold, our founder and lead craftsman, believes there are no shortcuts worth taking when it comes to quality work. That commitment shows in every joint he tightens, every finish he applies, and every piece he sends home looking better than it has in decades.

We have never been interested in cutting corners or rushing through projects. Each piece of furniture that comes through our doors gets the same careful attention, whether it is a museum-quality antique, a well-loved family rocking chair, or a child's crib that needs to be safe and sturdy for the next generation. We also handle furniture modifications like shortening legs or narrowing pieces, always blending the changes seamlessly with the original design.

When you call ARED, you talk to the people who will actually be working on your furniture. We listen to your goals for the piece, discuss the best approach, and keep you informed throughout the process. That kind of direct relationship with the craftsman is rare these days, and we intend to keep it that way.

Our Approach

Restoration Done Right

For a long time, "restoration" meant stripping away the original patina, re-gilding metal objects, and making everything look factory fresh. We take a different approach. At ARED, we prioritize preserving the authentic character of each piece while carefully addressing structural damage, dents, cracks, and wear.

Tired of furniture shopping where everything looks exactly the same? By restoring your old furniture, you can update the pieces you already love. And here is something most people do not know: in some cases, we can alter less expensive furniture during the restoration process to create a more antique, one-of-a-kind look. You do not have to spend a fortune to have furniture with real character.

Our expertise also means preventing irreversible damage. Poor previous repairs, incorrect finishes, and well-meaning DIY attempts can sometimes cause more harm than good. We know how to undo those mistakes and apply the right methods, whether that means classic finishes that honor an aged piece or a completely new direction that gives your furniture a second life.

We also help customers with insurance claims for damaged furniture. Whether the damage came from water, fire, mold, rot, or insects, we provide professional documentation including photos, written reports, and detailed estimates with pricing and timelines to support your claim. We have seen too many adjusters undervalue what proper restoration actually costs, and we are glad to advocate for our customers.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Authenticity

We believe in preserving the original character of every piece. Restoration is not about making something look brand new. It is about honoring the craftsmanship that came before us while ensuring the piece will endure for generations to come.

Craftsmanship

Quality work takes time, and we never rush. We use traditional joinery techniques, hand-selected materials, and finishing methods proven over centuries. Every repair is made to last, not just to look good for a few months.

Customer Care

Your furniture matters to you, and that makes it matter to us. We communicate openly about timelines, costs, and expectations. Free pickup and delivery is just one way we make the process easier for our customers across DFW.

Customer Reviews

Words From Our Customers

"I took in an old radio that had been sitting in a corner of my garage since the 1980's. This radio was originally built in the 1930's and was damaged. They took the radio and made it like new! It now looks like something out of a Hollywood movie. I am so impressed with the detail of their work and you cannot see where any of the damage was and the finish and color are extraordinary."

- Marc Entsminger

"ARED restored my long awaited settee given to me from my Grandfather so long ago and over the years had gotten into quite a disarray! The craftsmanship was impeccable, I was so excited to see the settee restored to its former glory, it's quite the masterpiece. This piece of furniture had so many memories and now I can hand it down to my children to create more."

- Nancy Volkert

"I had an old dining table from my grandma restored by Arnold and his team. Wow I can't believe the craftsmanship of these guys. I will be back for sure."

- Chris S

"They did a fantastic job remodeling an antique chair. The chair was over 150 years old, in my wife's family for generations, and in bad shape from years of neglect. They worked with me to get it just the way I wanted it using fabric I provided. I could not be happier. It was not cheap ($1200.00), but this was not something I could have done myself."

- John Murray

"I was extremely impressed at how quick they got the job done. They have great skills!"

- Antonio Valentino

"Their work is so amazing. By far the best antique restorations in DFW."

- Chase Green
